Taking The Legacy of Andrés Segovia as its guiding thread, Ricardo Gallén charts a journey through Spain’s defining musical identities: the Mediterranean brightness of Vicente Asencio, the intimate Galician atmosphere of Mompou, the Castilian character of Moreno Torroba, and the expressive power of Andalusia in Turina.
The programme carries a distinctive musicological dimension: Gallén has worked directly from the manuscripts of Turina’s Sonata op. 61 and Mompou’s Suite Compostelana, restoring versions as close as possible to the composers’ original intentions — before the alterations introduced in later editions.
The second half turns to Spain’s most iconic nationalist repertoire: Granados’s Danza nº 5 and essential pages by Albéniz — Torre Bermeja, Capricho catalán, Zambra oriental and Sevilla — in the landmark guitar arrangements by Segovia and Llobet.
Programme: — Vicente Asencio: Suite Mística (Getsemaní, Dipsô) — Federico Moreno Torroba: Sonatina — Joaquín Turina: Sonata op. 61 — Enrique Granados: Danza nº 5 — Federico Mompou: Suite Compostelana — Isaac Albéniz: Torre Bermeja · Capricho catalán · Zambra oriental · Sevilla
