Festival de Guitare Luxemburgo
Ricardo Gallén makes his debut in Luxembourg with a programme that traces the rich landscape of Hispanic and Latin American guitar music, framed by one of Bach’s most intimate and profound works for lute.
The evening opens with Manuel Ponce’s Sonatina meridional, a luminous homage to the folk spirit of Mexico, followed by two waltzes by the legendary Agustín Barrios Mangoré — the great poet of the guitar — whose music breathes with the warmth and melancholy of South America.
The heart of the programme belongs to Isaac Albéniz, whose evocative portraits of Spain — Torre Bermeja, Capricho Catalán, Zambra granadina and the celebrated Sevilla — transport the listener through the colours, rhythms and soul of the Iberian Peninsula.
The programme concludes with Bach’s Lautensuite BWV 997, a work of extraordinary depth and architectural beauty that reveals, once again, why Gallén is considered one of the most compelling Bach interpreters of his generation.
