Recording as Artistic Vision
For Ricardo Gallén, recording is never simply a documentary act, but an extension of artistic thought. Each of his twelve albums has been conceived as a fully formed musical statement, shaped not only by repertoire, but also by instrument choice, acoustic space, sound perspective and the broader expressive world of each project. In this sense, the recording studio becomes not merely a place of capture, but a space of artistic construction and discovery.
His most recent album, Preludes and Dances from Brazil, was recorded in the extraordinary acoustic setting of the 13th-century Convent of San Francisco in Ávila — a location whose atmosphere and resonance became part of the artistic identity of the recording itself. A new recording project is currently in its final editing stages and promises to become another significant chapter in Gallén’s discography.
